Witches

According to various

legends, witches would gather twice a year during the change of seasons (April 30 and October 31). They arrived on flying broomsticks and attending a party where they played curses and spells on people. They also said that to find a witch, you had to put your clothes on inside out and walk backwards during Halloween night, and then at midnight you would see a witch.

There are also legends that say that witches could change into cats (hence the black cat is constantly associated with witches) and some people believed that cats were the spirits of the dead.
